Applications for the 2019 Faster Forward Fellowship are now open!
The Faster Forward Fellowship is awarded to CGU students* whose ideas offer potential to accelerate the theory and practice of evaluation. Fellowships are awarded based on submissions of a written essay that focuses on the discipline of evaluation (or its methods or applications).
The $5,000 prize will be awarded to the student (or students, if two tie; note that multiple author submissions are not accepted) who submit the best essay.
Winning essays will be judged by senior CGU faculty, and will be published on the 3F website (fasterforwardfund.org)
Applicants for the Faster Forward Fellowship will work through three stages:
- Submitting an Expression of Interest, a one-page abstract of their proposed essay idea. All applicants will receive written feedback on their abstract.
- Presenting ideas, to a representative, or team of representatives from 3F. Presentations will take place, online, with all applicants receiving verbal feedback at the end of the presentation.
- Finally, applicants will submit an essay of between 2,000 and 5,000 words based on the evolution of their ideas through this process.
- Expression of Interest is DUE APRIL 20th, 2019
- Presentations are DUE APRIL 30th, 2019
- Final Applications are DUE JUNE 30th, 2019
All entrants must meet two eligibility criteria:
- Students must be currently enrolled at Claremont Graduate University
- Students must have taken (or be taking) at least one evaluation course at Claremont Graduate University (Exemptions can be made on a case-by-case basis for students who can show they have equivalent background knowledge or experience in evaluation).
Additionally, essays must be about the discipline of evaluation, or part of it, or its methods or applications.
CRITERIA OF MERIT
Essays will be judged on the following criteria:
- The essay must put forward an original suggestion that is intended to improve the current theory or practice of evaluation, either in its usual fields (e.g. education, health) or in some other field that requires evaluation (e.g. water purity, sports, anything else that someone might evaluate)
- The essay must reflect ideas or conclusions that are “out of the box”, i.e. a new concept, point of view, method, application of evaluation, etc.
- The topic addressed should be important, either academically or socially
- There must be careful consideration of the impact of your idea or proposal on humans in extreme needs. You don’t have to prove potential help to a group, but you do have to prove that you looked diligently for it, and you can earn points for showing your concept’s significant impacts in this dimension.
- Please do not include your name on the title page or in your paper
- Email your entry with your name and the paper title clearly noted in the body of the email (reviewers will review the essays anonymously)
